The ESO has many activities: e.g. the organisation of yearly stroke summer schools and symposia on stroke controversies, sponsoring a European Master of Stroke medicine program, implementation of standards for stroke care and stroke units in Europe and, most importantly, the development of European guidelines for the management of ischemic stroke

 

ESO Department to Department Visit Programme

The European Stroke Organisation is pleased to announce that a “Department to Department Visit Programme” will be launched in 2010.

This programme is offered to young scientists and physicians to facilitate training in basic, clinical or applied research related to stroke in European laboratories or clinics. The goal is to maximise the exchange of information and expertise, to provide them an insight into stroke departments outside their country and to help to increase the applicants’ future career development.

ESO has made agreements with European stroke departments to host young stroke physicians. The applicant can mark his/her preference of host institution on the application form. A list of the available host institutions and their vignettes can be found here.

The “Department to Department Visit” can be 2-4 weeks long and is available to physicians born after 01.01.1975 with an interest in the field of stroke. The ESO will support up to 10 young scientists annually with a grant of max. 1.500 € (375, - € per week). Applicants are expected to become ESO members.

Postgraduate Master Programme European Master in Stroke Medicine

Master of Science (MSc)

The Danube University, Krems, Austria, offers a postgraduate Master Programme in Stroke Medicine which is part of the Educational Programme of the European Stroke Organisation (ESO).

The "European Master in Stroke Medicine" Programme aims at neurologists and stroke physicians (certified as well as in training) planning to gain the practical knowledge as well as the scientific background to participate in clinical research and networking.

This program covers all areas of cerebrovascular diseases, including management of stroke units and principles and practice of neurological interventions and recovery, and is provided by a faculty of leading European experts.

  • Part-time course with 4 full weeks of on-site lectures held over a period of two years (one week per semester)
  • 4 full weeks of practice on a Europe-wide accredited stroke unit
  • Approval of a Master thesis

Tuition fee: Euro 12,000.-

The third course will start on Monday Oct 25, 2010

14th ESO Stroke Summer School

The final program and practical organisation of workshops will be decided in May 2010 after selection of attendees and will depend on the choice of attendees. The course will consider all the most relevant aspects in stroke, from basic research to diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.
